Near the end of January, two of our HCBS Homes, Hillside & Nicollet Place in St. Peter, received their first round of the COVID-19 vaccination. Tracy Bishop, Direct Support Professional, shared the experience with us here:
Some staff and residents were apprehensive and scared about the safety of the shot.
Walgreen’s personnel showed up with the first dose of the Moderna vaccine. They were very friendly and answered all of the questions that everyone asked. Everyone felt very at ease with them. They also shared that they had offered their time, during their off time, to do the vaccination.
Staff and residents had a good time visiting and laughing with each other while waiting there turn. The residents went first. Teasing each other when they made faces while receiving the shot. Then pictures were taken of all the staff that received the shot.
The next shot will come at the end of the month. Everyone feels that this will be good for everyone and that the next shot will not be as scary.
It’s great to hear that Walgreens helped ease the fear, creating a fun experience to better protect everyone. Thank you Tracy for sharing, and a virtual high-five to all the staff and residents that took part in the vaccine.
